Believe it or not, you can get a bit used to earthquakes. Some do and don'ts, however. Don't live by the sea or at the base of a steep incline, or in a two story house, do keep a supply of food on hand.
 
Quakes seem to come in cycles, but if you added up all the ones that you can feel and can't feel, i expect that they are happening pretty regular in countries that comprise what they call the ring of fire. One site says somewhere around 1000 per year on these islands. Hot springs all over the place. Lots of folks have the springs piped onto their homes. Whole hot spring resort areas, water bubbling all over the place. There might be a set up nearby where you can go to cook your vegetables or hard boil your eggs. Mineral content is not high enough to much affect taste at a lot of areas, but the water is still quite soothing.
