That's crazy...I remember when I was working for Columbia Helicopters, one of the hookers talked a pilot into flying his elk out for him. I saw that elk at the end of the long line and thought..."too easy", as I have had to carry a few of them out of a hole on my back. That hooker was lucky the big wigs did not catch wind of that one

Alaska has plenty of room. I say go for it.

The major drawback is that it could negatively impact the last remaining major Salmon spawning region, and an ancient way of life connected to the fish. A huge project beyond anything that has ever been done, and the scale of protection required would be beyond precedent. Watch the entire video, it does present both sides. Do you turn it into a mining region or not? Allowing the mine would likely pave the way for others, was stated. An interesting positioning by the EPA. Some great scenery in the vid.

They need to do/spend whatever it might take to allow them both to coexist.

The mining concerns say they will do that, and in order to get the permits it will have to be shown that they will devise an adequate system. One problem is that these things often fail, there being a history of disasters. There are risks. Gigantic ponds filled with acidic waste water would be required, and it is earthquake territory, is one thing. The place would possibly have to be monitored forever. Huge amounts of bucks lie underground there.

Good find Jay. I really hope we do not lose that area to mining. Amazing how a sustainable food source and eco system can be jeapordized for the mere greed of wanting too harvest a finite amount of minerals.
