Thanksgiving 2008

Tis that time of year again. Here come and here are the holidays. Some of us will spend them with family, some with friends, some alone.
In these times it is easy to forget what to be thankful for and just stuff ourselves and watch the game on TV. My family has a tradition as I am sure other do also. We sat around and shared what we were thankful for each year.
I am thankful for the work that has been laid before me and the family that surrounds me. My kids and Katy. The fact we will have food on the table when others may not. For our over all good health. For this forum and its members that see me through each day with their comradery and knowledge that makes my profession safer and more fun

I'm thankful for my family, my parents are still alive and kickin', my kids are doing OK and I have a nice warm bed at night with satellite TV!

But the night before thanksgiving is always a booze fest 'round here, so I'm off to wait in lines at bars that only have lines on this night and hopefully run into some old friends....

I'm thankful that the "Kid" I was working with did NOT get electrocuted when he cut the armor but not the wires on a secondary 3-phase 480V 30-300 Amps depending...Damm Close ....GRATEFUL !

Yes MB, one with a weak spring, I noticed first thing. Some operators replace the springs sooner than others. I always put a clove hitch over the hook, I figure extra bite with the hanging weight. Thin, dry dead limb with no flex still moved the rope easily. I reached up and pulled the hook off it.

First experience with that, I'm thinking to take a hand saw with me when having to move through thick limbs to tie off the cable for a pick....and to pay better attention to what's going on above as well . The last tree of a long day.

I might have been safer than it seemed, with the clip still doing it's job, but I still found it rather scary. Loose choker cables get pushed off surprisingly easy.

next time install a shackle on the cable ,ontop of the hook ( if youre using the "headache ball")
tie into the shackle , make sure the screw pin is wrenched on tight, and ride your rope over the curved part of the shackle...its safer than tying into a hook.......
