I just noticed the gate on this one opens and angles. It functions perfectly and hasn’t been subject to any kind of abuse. When opens the gate doesn’t stay centered with the spine. It kinda goes to one side. Is this normal for this type of biner?

I thought that may be a trick for a wider mouth. It’s just strange that I’ve never noticed it before. Probably because it was usually gloved one hand operation on the lanyard.
 
It's pretty subtle unless you're sitting there playing with it. Not something that really jumps out at you.
 
Yes, I have a steel biner like that, the heavy duty rigging style. It's disturbing, because I bought first two straight opening ones and then an third a litle later after that they change the hinge for an angled opening.
 
careful, gate isnt rated for much, im 150# and used a speedline as a frictionsaver today, my rope got around the gate and almost tore it clean off about 60ft up a pine
