Next time and there will be one ,fabricate a piston holding stop . This is just a chunk of plastic or nylon,wood whatever with a notch for the rod .You put this little gizmo between the bottom of the piston and the crankcase to hold the piston steady .

I've never used a ring compresser on a saw and never broke a ring . I suppose it just takes a knack but all you have to do is ease the cylinder down over the piston and give it a little wiggle ,on it goes .Of course oil the dickens out of it .If it doesn't smoke for 5 minutes you didn't have enough oil .;)http://gypoclimber.com/showthread.php?t=9972

Hadn't thought of the holder Al, nice touch!
I guess I'm hardcore, I've never used much, if any lube. Never had a problem.
