preferred bar length in a climbing saw?

10" on a 150t

All my top handles are modded in some way or another. From exhaust mods to full porting of inlet and exhaust port.

I always prefer to run a saw well within the maximum guide bar size. I cannot imagine running a 16" on a 200t. I have ran a 12 on a friends 150t though and didn't think much of it.

I like to feel the power and the quicker the cut the safer IME. If I need to cut something out of the toppers range I will get a 441 sent up with a 20" bar. Likewise when that is out of its depth I will get the 660 sent up.

I never really run any saw at the top end of the guide bar length. Apart from 880's. I don't own one of them so I will use whatever is on the saw when I need to use it in the tree.

Yes on both accounts.
I put the 'cap' back over the recessed area after the drilling, and flared it out a bit so the exhaust can flow better. Also provides some potential deflection for an errant spark, not a huge issue when up a tree, but...
Check the 'MS150 has arrived' thread on the chainsaw forum, our saw mod guru Mastermind tore one down and rebuilt it...the best basic mod without going nuts is the muffler mod.
