After seeing Guy use a small torch on that oak tree, it got me thinking. It's worth having one on hand and using one in a tree might be tricky. I've googled some seemingly decent options, but you chaps tend to help me find features that I wouldn't have even considered. So here is what I'm thinking...

-small enough to fit in a pocket? We will end up bringing it up into a tree. Might as well make that experience enjoyable.
-streamlined. It's going to end up having a lanyard on it and it will end up dangling from someone's harness. I can't have it snagging on twigs.
-easily refillable. I have a lighter that uses aerosol butane cans to refill

This is convenient for me and the fuel is cheap enough. I don't even know what other fuel fillup options there are out there.

-not cheaply built. My small torch lighter is made by Brunton, is super tiny, but can take a beating. If there was a larger version of that, it would rock my world.

So far I've found a couple that LOOK somewhat reasonable

And

I like the bottom one the most. Especially if I could take the base off it.

Do you know of something better that might float my boat?

think cigar lighter/torch Nick, I have one that is butane and its a rockstar compared to a Bic. What are we doing with it again? I must have missed the thing the dude did that you are talking about...

Windproof hiking/camping lighter. I got one and it is the bee's knees. Can't blow it out, solders, shrink-tubes, fuses rope ends, lites the cigar, pipe and anything else I can think of. I'll see if I can't find the link for the one I have and post it here for you

If you look at the 5 minute mark you can see the one Guy uses.

His is WAY to big for my liking.

This is the storm proof lighter I have:

This is too small for what I have in mind and I don't think for this application I would like how your thumb has to be in the way to keep the flame going. I think I need something that can be held like a pistol.

I have one similar to the second one you linked Nick. It stays in a pouch in my climbing bin, and comes in really handy when needed. Like when I had to torch out 10 year old cobra cables that girdled the tree. The butane lasts forever it seems.

Is this too big, Nick?

Clearly you are wrong. Cobra can't girdle a tree! You speak lies!

(did you take pics. Would love to see it)

Haha I didn't take pics, but it is pretty bad. I will make sure to do so on the next one.

Nick you'll definitely be happy with it. The only tip i have is not to forget there's a little air damper at the base of the tip. I had mine accidently close in my pocket and was like wtf why won't this thing start :X
