Man dies in chipper accident

Before you know it the Z will mandate 2 man chipping teams at all times. I am not saying its a bad idea but it sure would put a crimp into the 2 man crew concept.

We mandate it here, same with stump grinding, at least 2 men.

There is always the concept of having some control and situational awareness when doing hazardous work. Really feeding a chipper should go smoothly, if not you are probably doing it wrong and should reeavalute your methods.

2 people on the chipper during all operations? Or one guy in the tree one guy working the chipper?

At least 2 men on the chipper, we run 4 man crews for the most part. 2 climbers, 2 ground men. Right now because of lack of supervisors, Greg is running a 8 man crew. Right now that is working because of the size of the properties we are on.

I guess that the constructors are very busy on the safety things. Those awful accidents are too bad for everyone, so they have to do their best to upgrade the machines and reduce the risk. Like the cars.
They have surely many solutions , but if the cost is a real factor, making the safety device efficient and reliable (and users friendly) is the hardest point.
