Hydrogel crystals vs. Hydrogel cooling pack

Hi, Bob Underwood sent me over to ask my question. Are Hydrogel crystals the same as hydrogel dressings for burns? Are they the same material? If so could it be used the same way, to help trees retain moisture? What are some of the problems with Hydrogel crystals?
