Head Leaning, Cracked, Hollow Oak.

This oak was all tangled in two trees and the HO wanted it down and leave the trees it was hung in.
Cracked all the way through, I put a couple of binders on it. I set a high rigging point in a neighbouring tree and had Katy add some tension using a 2-1 on the porty.
I could access the nasty stick from the two trees it was lying in and set SRT lines in each.
We took the tree down with two picks and a felling cut after untangling all three.
Taking weight off the head and the binding straps helped keep the tree together to get a decent directional fell into a clear spot in some rocks where it could be bucked up. Tops were swung over to an LZ just outside that.
Shot most all of the rigging from the ground so the tree could be supported while I worked aloft.

Had my "oh crap" lanyard on too... Solid trees for my TIP and a zip tie on the D .... Glad the HO saw fit he was over his head on this one.

I am actually so familiar with the larger button and the comfort level keeps me wearing it. so much easier to conference each individual. As far as bumping, you get used to it and laugh a little... With two like that, it's almost like "oops that was me, yeah I farted".

Loved working this one SRT as well Sean. The fact I never had to untie my tip or disconnect from it to redirect or install an FS was nice. Never solely tied to the hazard. If I had to bail at any time, just like jumping off with an 8. Love that HH!
It was pretty close quarters in the first tree until I got the brush separated.

I normally would have if I was just felling it MB. Probably just use chain binders. Since I was taking all the head weight off it first and I had it suspended, more or less, with the rigging line, I felt the two straps were plenty. Amazing how much that crack closed after taking 2/3rds the tree off the trunk. I also was almost 90 degrees to the crack on the face cut. That helps. Still cut fast and boogie though

Great job Stephen!...them live oaks have heavy trunks

If you have some short pieces of 5/8's or 3/4 rigging rope, they work good for split trunks

edit, wrapping around split trunks

BOTC.... I rarely throw rope away... I have done that in the past. just wanted to be able to cinch her up better as I took weight off.
Most of my scrap pieces turn into chokers. Stuff I can drag brutally tied to a log or chunk using MA or machine. I put a rigging ring or biner on the end of it and tie my rigging rope to that so is does not get abraded
