This is a sequel thread to Burnham's earlier posts about backing up the double rope Kong ascenders using the microcender. I took his excellent idea and am using it on single rope. Here's the setup I've been using, to footlock. You could just as easily do it SRT walker, by placing a foot strap and pantin setup.

Having the New England tech cord connected to the ascender from the microcender prevents the two pieces from hitting eachother when moving up the rope, which is nice.

Video of footlocking with this setup, for a tree removal we were working on at the arboretum.

If I showed it to you I would have to kill ya. Seriously I am starting the whole patent BS but hope to get it out to market soon. I might post video of me using it but no details of device. All I can say is that after using it for 6 months I couldnt do tree work without it now8)

Humpf. Saying you have invented a tool for doing tree work that is the best, but then not even giving a hint.

What a gyp

Give us an idea at least. We are all friends here(although those canadians might try to rip you off) anywho. You can't say I have a better way and not share, What kind of treeman are you?:P

Make sure you don't patent something that has already been invented. I know Graham McMahon (whose son, Angus posts on here sometimes) has created a gas powered ascending device.

You never really know what's out there.

Atlas rope ascender. Uses the same type of battery pack as a cordless drill:

It is a gas powered ascender. Hey trees and surf has the guy you are talking about got a patent on his unit? Ive done a patent search and couldnt find anything similar. Did see the Atlas but that unit is very different from mine.
I am starting up a LLC called Ropetek and the unit is called the Wraptor. It weighs in at about 16lbs and enables you to ascend 75 feet per minute SAFELY AND EFFORTLESSLY. Being a moron tree guy this whole business thing is a bit challenging, trying to get prototypes up and running and trying to even get manufacturers to even talk to me let alone work with me. I hope to have 100 units ready in about 8 weeks.
Nobody will write the product liability insurance, that was almost a deal stopper there as its not if we get sued but when as you Know some idiot is going to tie into a 2' dead pine stub and wonder why they got hurt. I probably shouldnt try this as an endever but I truely believe that this is such a good piece of gear. So far EVERY tree guy that has used it WANTS it!!!!
I do mostly removals and on jobs with multiple removals it seems to enable me to do a third more work. Imagine getting to your TIP with no effort! I love the Wraptor. As I said I will post a small video soon.

Gotta go as a BIG oak awaits me over a busy road. Going to crane it outa there on a Sunday am................

If you need field research...im in.:D I have spoken with the atlas dudes in length.....very pricey. How much did yours cost to make?

Its gas, Im thinking at pricing it at about $2500. The driving factor is going to be the insurance costs but at this point it looks as though we have to sell them for a year and hope that we have no suits and then the insurance co.s will have a better risk assesment data. Gotta love what lawyers are doing to this country. The guy that taught me to climb 20 years ago always used to say "what do you call 1000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? A good start!" Trying to get this Wraptor to market I have to say I am inclined to agree!
