For most users, the 'clear your PMs' issue is due to the 'sent items' folder. Every time you send a PM, a copy is saved in a separate folder and counts against your total PM limit. Go to http://www.gypoclimber.com/private.php?s=&pp=&folderid=-1 to get to your 'sent items' folder and start deleting.

You can also uncheck that box in your user cp that says "save a copy in sent folder".
