Anyone here do it? Or even seen it in person?

I've always loved forests and I really do love and appreciate trees more every day.

And I dig pruning. Bonsai would be cool

Bonsai is cool, and I've made a couple halfassed attempts, but I just don't have the temperament for it.

I tried a few times many years ago. All of them died. Probably good that I didn't become a doctor like my mother wanted. I'm not the nurturing type.

One interesting fact about bonsai.
They are very long lived, for the same reason that Bristecone pines are.

Adversity.

An interesting anecdote backing Stig's astute observation?

The practice of pollarding's roots in feeding farm animals throughout European history pretty much documents that pollarded trees on estates outlived their natural forest brethren.

I still find natural forests far more appealing myself, regardless of species.
