Welcome to the forum, I've spliced a few ropes in my time and could you get a better photo of the eye on the right please? It looks like there is exposed core there although it could just be the photo. My other pet hate/OCD annoyance is huge lines with marker pen that you can see on the final product. I always prefer a small dot on the cover or a piece of thread that can be removed afterwards but maybe I'm just too far gone with the OCD....
