Antichair - stepped back cut

Did I see a dutchman in the stump around 4:00?

Curious if it's someone's armchair idea.

I shave the bark from the tension side when setting a backstrap...I want to know where the bark ends and wood begins.

I’m a little dubious about it.

A buddy pointed out that the chair may still slip by the step as it goes over. The step should be higher in that case.

The thing I wonder is how to know where the tree is going to chair and therefore where to put the step.

If the hinge is not too strong, everything else is right, it’s moot.

If the tree starts to split, butting up against that step, it may be held a bit.

As soon as the tree tips a bit, it can clear that step, while still headleaning hard.

That barberchair will continue to propagate upward.

Supposing your cutting far frrom the needed supplies, the step (could be much taller) doesn't prevent the split.

A very tall step might keep the split minimized.

Very hollow headleaners prevent cutting the sides while using a hinge, and your ability to gut some fibers of the heartwood (thereby removing the cut fibers from the direct forces of the hard lean on the hinge).

Coos Baying a hollow tree Might work great. No extra gear needed.
I don't know!! Less precise felling!

Am I wrong in suggesting that the step location may encourage the barber chair split to start there as the faceward wood i held by the step?
