    I'm not seeing it, Dave. Simply can't picture it. Can't you get a piece of firewood or something and a saw and do a couple of pictures. I don't really feel like experimenting with stuff like this, the results of a screw-up can be dire.

    Upwards, but I don't think it much matters, it is basically a question of severing fibers in the middle of the tree.

    I only use it when I need directional control on a heavy leaner. If I can just let them go where they want, I go CB
