    Gardening - Growing Your Own.

We are having a drought here. My hayfield is not growing at all. Last year we had to go out and buy hay, because of drought, hope this year will not be the same.

One of my old apprentices used to do that. Made about 20 grand each year selling it. His parents lived way out in the sticks on an island, that is where he had the tunnel. We've got way too much cop traffic around here, due to the refugee camp 2 miles away, for that to work.

Springtime again. So let us get the gardening thread going. The vegetable garden is cleaned up and ready to go ( Except for the giant Sequoia that some idiot plated in the middle of it!) Poly tunnel has been filled with the stuff I've been cultivating under artificial light for the last 1½...

I've spent the last two days transferring all my little plants out to the Polytunnel. Took a while, I can only do a little work at the time, before my wrist acts up. Finally got there, though: 45 tomatoes in 16 varieties, 30 Jalapeno peppers and 20 assorted other varieties, 10 melons and 10...

Well, spring finally made it to Denmark. For a one handed man, it is a good thing to have friends. My best friend, whom I've been hanging out with since we were 13, came and rototilled the polytunnel today, getting all the composted horse manure mixed into the soil.. Funny thing is, last spring...

Man, that is the parsnip that ate Cincinnati! Chopped into inch thick chunks and broiled is also good.

After the non-spring and the worst summer since 1979, the polytunnel plants are finally starting to produce a bit. Richard and I have been grilling and canning jalapenos today. Man, they just taste so good off the grill, so both of us were munching away at them. Should get a second harvest in...

If I was God and had to listen to people curse, I'd not be hanging out in Montana. I'd make my job easier and go to a greater concentration of people, like L.A. Also: " CLEAR YOUR FRIGGING INBOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I'm trying in vain to PM you.

It is a piss off, but on the other hand I don't make a living from it. Same with all my cherry trees. With some 30+ trees we get maybe 17 cherries this year. It was just so cold when they bloomed, there was not a pollinator in sight. Last year we had a great crop, and just as they were ripe, it...

It is a good thing that I'm not Irish. Then I'd have to emigrate to the US........................Wait, what the hell am I saying here? Anyway, we had " A perfect storm" for grey mold. One of those times when lots of spores coincidence with the right humidity and temperature. All the potatoes...

They guarantee the plastic for 4 years. But that is not wildly expensive to redo. This is a 60 square meters tunnel, that costs about $500 to put new plastic on. I have 67 tomatoes in 14 different varieties, 47 chilies /peppers in 9 varieties, but mostly jalapenos, 10 aubergine, 3 cucumbers , 5...

Poly tunnel is your answer, Jim. You don't have near the evaporation when stuff groes uder plastic. I'll see if I can get some pictures of mine to show you.

I've got 166 tomato/chili/aubergine/melon plants under artificial light in the house, getting ready to move out in the polytunnel. Unfortunately we got a bit of frost ( It was snowing 30 minutes ago) so they'll just have to wait for better weather.
