    If you hold the tree on a backstrap, while doing all the cutting, there will be no movement in the tree before you trip it ( and run!). Therefore no chance of stuff falling down, so the ekstra time spent futzing around cutting from both sides with a smaller bar, wouldn't put you in any extra danger.

    There may be, but I haven't met said person so far. Sometimes it is the smallest things that saves us. As for the whole "run or look" discussion, I've found something that works. Get a partner like Richard! He is a veritable magneto for things coming down from above. When we went climbing...

    Judging from your pictures, that tree will go over nicely on it's own. No need to pull it. If it sound enough to fell, use a backstrap to hold it and then trip that from the outside and get the hell out of Dodge, so you don't get conked by falling debris. Then use the heavy equipment to roll it...
