Ive been messing with the HH setup the last few weeks. tried the setup with the basic below the HH and liked it. leon, i had the same idea, why not just attach the elastic to the HH directly and do away with the hand loop altogether. i think someone came up with exactly that idea years ago...

that is something that i never thought of. one of the reasons i love this site. as soon as there is a brak in the rain here im going to go out and give that a try. eliminating the basic makes the whole system so much more streamlined (and cheaper).

no problem. im 6' nothing, but i have a 6'6" armspan. the footloop is 43" end to end, and the hand loop is around 12". the hand loop is a little short, it should be half of a comfortable distance to hand over hand (grip to grip if you know what i mean). hope that helps. i like the horse plastic...

wouldn't that be nice! just the last few days ive been fooling with the HH switching to drt and back to srt. its really smooth, excellent for getting up into tight crowns by leapfrogging lanyard/climbline, then tie off and srt. im going to play around with an idea i had. if you tie off with a...

for whatever reason, i often find myself hanging off the side or bottom of limbs to reach some end cut. it is really nice to be able to easily pull myself back up. our coast live oaks have a lot of long drooping branches.

i find myself using the 3:1 pretty often, but not for limbwalks. more for adjusting my position for an awkward cut, or for pulling my weight off a branch.

I agree about the loop. I tried ti use a piece of cord at first, but the eyes kept working their way into the side slots. Ill try some thicker cord see if that works better. I do think some version of the loop should be incorporated into the HH.

the webbing trick is something i picked up watching the itcc in portland. Nicky Ward-Allen from new zealand was using it. really nice to be able to go full hand over hand, that is something that always bothered me about rope walking setups with handled ascenders.

i used the HH on a big bay laurel take-down w/crane today. i must say, the more i use the HH the more i like it. tooling around on big prune jobs was a fun start. i deffinatly agree that there is a shift in thought required to really enjoy/benefit from srt. im still working on rout planning on...
