After seeing hundreds of trees being felled, I've noticed a disturbing trend. Your typical residential, urban forester feller will stand by idly watching the tree go over, or even try to "steer" it as it falls. Conversely, every logger/forester I've ever seen will beat feet and get the heck out...

Another unintended consequence of over-pruning palms is excess flower/seed production.

I'd give him a pass on that one. End of the day, he's probably been climbing all day, tired, getting lazy, wants to go home, and just didn't pay attention. Who hasn't been there?

That cringe worthy moment in the beginning when he had his fingers on top of the cut with the crane pick just inches away. Yikes!

That makes sense. The vast majority of our work is in suburban residential lots, so we rarely have an opportunity to drop entire trees. For a back leaner, I've always used a pull line, sometimes backed up with wedges.

Is there any legitimate reason for making the back cut first?
