LOL! Trust me, my stacking wood by hand in no way reminds me of my youth. Equipment costs, in many ways. To be fair though I do use equipment to move my wood from the wood pile and hydraulic splitter to the house.

LOL. The catch 22 there is in order for a decades worth of wood to actually last a decade, you will be stacking said wood someplace under cover. I'm going to guess, that much wood will not fit on your front porch. Burning wood always seem to come back to 'stacking' one way or another.

No excess stacking is going on, only what is needed. Wood comes home from work and gets dumped in the log pile. When needed, split it 'if needed', and bring it to the house. Wood is stacking within 5 steps of the stove. Works well.

It is a life style for some, Kyle. For myself, I have given careful thought to what I do and how I do it. Not really a random sort of guy.

The majority of what we bring home from work is already cut to stove length. By the time I get around to splitting it, it has already been sitting for a couple of years. Our summers tend to be so hot and dry, that even the unsplit rounds in the stack will be dry or mostly so.

As someone who has spent the majority of his life depending on firewood, when you need it, it's all good. Also not a fan of walking through snow and subzero wind on a frequent basis to get my wood. This is what the deck leading to my front door looks like at this time of year.

Well it takes longer but it will dry while still in log form, at least here it will. Only 9" to 12" of precipitation in our area. Still, I do always try to allow some air time for the split wood I stack on the front deck before it needs to be used.

Yes, Cory, all the wood we use comes from our tree jobs. Not really sure on how much we use. It's kind of hard to calculate when you never stop. It is a lot though. A hydraulic splitter gets it to fire box size. We worked out a system that is productive and very financially beneficial. We...

We heat and cook entirely with wood. Cottonwood is one of my favorites! When using it, it is dead easy to keep the oven at 350 which happens to coincide with most things we cook in there. It also works great for holding an overnight fire without getting the house too warm. Always a nice bed of...

Interesting job, Stig. Those are some fairly large dwellings, any idea how many bats each one will house?

If it is growing towards your house because other trees or structures are filling the other areas, trying to straightened it out will not work. Trees will always try to maximize growth towards the available light.

Pictures would help. It might be possible, but why is it growing with a lean if it started from a seed?

You do really nice work, Stephen. It is so much better for the trees, even though it's more work, to leave them natural and full on the inside, like you are doing, instead of stripping everything out because it's in your way, like so many other climbers do.
