That's worked well for me on dead/dying trees. I've had less success with it on 'healthy' hollowed ones. Maybe I'M the issue :D

I've dealt with that around here when hard maple grows in a really wet area. The sapwood doesn't mind the wet feet, but the heartwood rots away from the inside. So you're left with a big tree with very little structural support but looks healthy from the outside because all the sapwood is...

DMM hitch climber pulley knot interference

I'm pretty sure it was Randy aka nhlocal who told me about this board a few years back. Wish I'd hung here more! You are good people!

Small world! I'm in Dudley. Lived at the West Street fire station in Auburn for a few years while i was in school in Worcester. Half mile from Rochdale.

I love hearing that. I just got a call from my groundie last night he hooked a job to remove 4 large oaks. I think it's time for a new seat.

DMM hitch climber pulley knot interference

Thanks Bermy, I'll definitely take a close look at it! I never ignore recommendations from seasoned pros. I'm sure with tree saddles, as with bike saddles, there's a big element of personal fit and preference depending on the the predominate type of climbing and work one does?

DMM hitch climber pulley knot interference

Sean's right, southern Mass, US of A. In rural enclave surrounded by Worcester to the north, Boston to the northeast, Providence to the southeast, and Hartford to the southwest. Sean that's an amazingly generous offer! I don't know if I'd feel right just taking a saddle off you without...

DMM hitch climber pulley knot interference

I think I'm sounding cheaper than I am here, hemming and hawing over ~150 - 200 bucks for a new climb line, which could pay for itself in one job. The thing is, is I'm also very much considering a new saddle. I'm still on a Weaver 4 D wide back, which is actually great for removals, but I've...

DMM hitch climber pulley knot interference

I really like that idea, thanks. I might give that one a try first. Even though I really should probably just get a new climb line. And probably think about switching to SRT anyway or at least one that's SRT/DdRT capable. I really like that a basal tie SRT system allows someone else to lower...

DMM hitch climber pulley knot interference

I could, in theory. But between all the other crap I do, plus a two year old to take care of, learning to splice might solve my interference problem but also might ruin my marriage :D

DMM hitch climber pulley knot interference

I've often thought of switching to a bowline but I never did. The rock climbing community, and the fire service community (which I was once a part of) has something against the bowline as a life safety knot and for that reason I always default to the figure 8 follow through/figure 8 on a bight...

Haven't turned up anything in search, apologies in advance if this is a dead horse but... I'm using a hitch climber with samson arbormaster and bee line i2i as my main setup. I bought the arbormaster before I had the hitch climber and I was still on a blake's with a knot tending pulley, so no...

    Twisting spurs with Opsal pads

Awesome, Gary. Believe or not, we also have an un-restored older brother to that VA, a Case SC from around the same time. It needs a LOT of help though. Doesn't run, all the sheet metal's there though, and most of it needs paint. Motor needs an overhaul though. And the rims are totally shot...

I also dabble in vegetable and flower gardening Timber framing and stone masonry backcountry skiing brewing beer, and making french viennoiserie. And I'm an avid road cyclist and mountain biker. I guess I epitomize the jack of all trades, lol

    Twisting spurs with Opsal pads

Oh it's not much of a homestead. I'm on a couple acres, but surrounded by 160 acres of family farm land. I have some informal responsibility in maintaining the farmland, mostly involving keeping the damned fence lines cut back, which is also where all my firewood comes from. Also clearing up...

    Twisting spurs with Opsal pads

It's cool man, me too :) That is definitely at the core of the problem. I think you may have nailed it. They tend to slide down just enough for slop and rotation, as you say, no matter how hard a crank down on the foot strap. And I've never really had to crank down the foot strap with my...

    Twisting spurs with Opsal pads

Hey all, couldn't find anything on search for this: I was on leather t-pads on my steel buckingham spurs for quite a while, and upgraded to the Opsals based on their reputation. Comfortable for sure, but ever since I started using them, I've noticed my spurs tend to want to twist on my feet a...
