No paint ,the saw was not beat up only improperly used by some roughnecks as I 've been told .I guess they trashed that poor thing in less than two months so it really didn't have much running time .

The air filter cover is new via Curt Bailey .The rest was just washed with solvent and blown dry .An old trick if you want one to shine is go over it with cream type hand cleaner,gets all the gunk off .Then if you want ,douse it down with Armor All .

Another little tid bit concerning the 038 series . This series of saws are still sought after and parts go rather high.In searching for a clutch cover I discovered the 024 and 028 covers will interchange,these go considerabley cheaper .One more thing,an 038 AV cover for some reason does not quite fit the Mag.I think Stihl must list 3 or 4 dfferent ones for the AV and my IPL's don't cover the super,Mag or Mag II .

Seems like we used have this type of hands on, mechanic threads with pics much more ofter back in the day...
