I’d imagine their use is much much less due to the trees being much smaller usually and they’re using chainsaws in lieu of axes and crosscut saws?

Yes. On steep ground and unusual trees I still see them used occasionally.

Springboards are great for certain situations. Ever wanted to be 4' taller? Set a board at 4'.
Rarely used, like a lot of specialty tools, but when you want it, it's in the truck.
