Rope ID long shot

Hello all, I had a customer give me some unused rope that he bought from a website called rescuedirect.com which also sells rope from treestuff.com like their bag o rope. Its a long shot, but I wanted to see if anyone recognized it. I'm tempted to use it as a light duty burner for rigging and pulling, but I want to know what it is Otherwise, its going to be used for tying down loads. Appears to be 12 strand. One is 1/2", one is 5/8. Has been kept in a garage for 2 years, I've been told. Photos attached. Thanks in advance!

Hmm. That is indeed rope. It should be easier to pull than push. Resist pissing up it, but if you do, be sure to suckle on the wet end.

No positive ID, no trust. Don't care what anyone says, you wouldn't trust your life or your reputation to hardware store rope, so tie stuff down with it, don't count on it to hold stuff up.

Haha, about what I expected. Gotta love the homeowner gifts that can really help. Well meaning, but not always truly helpful 🙄

Why not use it for none critical work? IMO if it were just hardware store junk rope it wouldn’t be 5/8”. Dragging logs and ripping over dead spars is a good test. Pulling out a stuck truck it a real good test. But do not know what it is. Can you call the seller and ask a few questions?

Exactly, it’s free.
Test it to destruction, then use accordingly.

Looks similar to some hardware store rope I like to practice hollow braid splices. Definitely for non-critical use. The stuff I get is small 5/16 and 3/8. It is 100% polyester with a non-woven cloth filler to keep it round. I pull out and discard the core.

The 5/16 is specified at 150 pounds WLL. I bet the 5/8 is fairly stout for a free rope.

How about cutting off a chunk and sending it in to be break tested?

What does the rope feel like? Are you familiar enough with polypropylene to ID it by sight/feel? Polypro floats. Because of that, it's used for river rescue(Note the website it came from), but it's terrible for anything dealing with weight or friction. At least be sure it isn't polypro before using it for trees.
