Kool video on kudzu of tierson boutte. He showed me his remote grapple a few years back, looks like he's improved on it . Last year I questions him how many lbs the grapple would hold? For instance if the limb had a prying action on the grapple would it open. He seemed not concerned.
Lets say in a most extreme case for the grapple to open would be where you had to grapple a 40 ' limb 18" in diameter and you had to grapple it just past where you were cutting to fold the limb down, err something like that. I wondered how many lbs of pressure the claws hydrolic piston would hold.

You'll need to click on the Boutte Tree Service video, or just watch this;

Those grapples will be the next big thing, mark my words. I like em, but I'm trying to figure out any bad aspects to it - so far, none that I can see.

What powers them? It's completely remote, right? :?

Notice (about halfway in the vid) the complete waste of time underbed the climber used? Also, the over-pull the crane operator was applying to the load? I hate when they do that! It just goes to show that 90% of the time an underbed isn't necessary.

His price sure is right. He only wants 10 grand per unit.! I operated the grapple as he had it in the back of his truck MB. The remote was a bit large for my liking. A box about the size of 4 packs of Marlboro's. It should be 1/4th that size.
I agree, it will be the industry standard eventually and it should be because its efficient and down right smart.It enables climber to attach to wood at the exact balancing point of what he is rigging. He never told me how many lbs pressure it would hold in my above scenario.
Ive emailed him and invited him to the treehouse and this thread!

I wonder how much faster it is compared to climbing out on limbs. Youd never need to go out on a limb again MB thats worth 10 grand for sure!

12k now.....much fAster for loooong limbs. Switch out out for trunk pics

Can it rotate? I like it. I would imagine it could go for hours on a charge. There's a lot of possibilities with that.

nope, it dosen't articulate. I was up at BostonBulls shop yesterday and saw it. Good for wide spreading hardwoods, not so good for trunk sections and conifers. The guys who demo'd it seem to think it will be a time saver on certain trees.

MB can you change the topic to RigEm&Roll

Hello Everybody

Thanks for all the posts and sorry it took me so long to get here....by the way, where is here? Is this Master Blaster's website...or just his lounge? I didn't know that Master Blaster had a website of his own....Glad to be here!

Yes, it's electric, battery powered, with a hydraulic pump. No hose reel or anything like that. It holds 5,500 lbs and weighs just over 500 lbs. It's great for taking oaks, locusts, elms, maples, etc. apart, but not so suited for trees that primarily consist of vertical picks, like white pines. There are some hardwoods that are very vertical, so that's something to consider, as well.

I've had a huge amount of success doing demos of RigEm&Rolls in the south, and indeed anywhere where guys use a lot of cranes and the trees are big and have lots of wide-spreading leaders. I'm very interested in doing demos in Atlanta, and I'm planning to do a trip throughout Alabama, Louisiana, and Florida sometime in late Spring or so.

Any other questions I missed?
