portable capstan winch

who uses the portable capstan winch and what are your thoughts on it. can it do the work a regular chipper winch can do? I like that it can have as long of a winch line as you got rope for, I like that its portable. it seems powerfull enough. any down sides I'm not seeing?

They're slow. If you don't have any choices they are fine.
I haven't tried a winch on a chipper - but I'd compare the speed to a 12v winch on a 4x4.

slow eh? what about the capstan chewing or burning up the line? I've heard of that happening.

Funny, past few days I've been googling capstan winches, hoping to find parts.... no luck..... guess I'll have to weld one up.
