Not likely, but anyway...:)

I noticed that my local Stihl dealer has a new 440 on his showroom shelf...under a price tag for a 441. I didn't notice the price, but if anyone is interested I could easily check it out, and provide contact info if desired.

Madsen's has 440s, as well.

Are these a limited supply, that people know of? Are they not readily available across the country? I saw them, but didn't really think anything of it.

One of the employees said that they thought there was some kind of emissions credit that allowed the new influx of 'em. Heresay.

Stihl brought them back to appease the backlash of unhappy loggers not liking the 441. I've no idea how long they will continue making them though. Think of it as the Husky 372, it has been discontinued and reintroduced four? times now to make customers happy.

I heard they will sell them in the U.S. until the end of 2012. They are still made in Germany, just not sold here.

I can't help but wonder if in time to come if they won't do this very same thing with popular models such as the 200T and Ms 660 .

Stihl is world wide with sales and manufacturing plants all over the world .Probabley the largest market is in the US and Canada which are the two most anal about environmental issues as they see them to be .

Rambling on some more that deal is a parrellel of the old CAFE standards set in the late 70's ,fleet milage .It was an intended loop hole in the laws as written.

What it basically boiled down to was for example Ford had to sell 4 or 5 Pintos to be able to sell 1 Lincoln .The Pintos were sold with moderate profit and the Lincolns with huge profit margins .

Which became very evident when one went to the parts counter !
My 64 T Bird parts that were dealer only had to be purchased at the Lincoln dealer where I lived at the time. Man did that suck!

That's a scam they all try to pull .If you know the parts numbers they can be crossed referenced .For example the door lock mechanism on a MK7 Lincoln is the same number used on an Escort .A difference at the time of 16 bucks Escort 33 bucks Lincoln .

It's known fact that if you built either a chainsaw or an automobile from new dealer parts you'd have about 5 times the cost as a new one .
