Just been goofing off with a 362xp project. Started off with 2 bare crankcase halves and slowing putting it togeter from pieces. Really expensive doing it this way. New OEM crankshaft, new OEM tank, etc.

What a bone head move on my part. I new my 362 was small mount husky and I got the right inner bar plate. But I forgot about the clutch cover. All I have is large mount clutch covers. No inner deflector either yet.

Looking for small mount 362 clutch cover with bar tensioner in cover. Maybe a 2163 will work too.

Video in 10" x 9.5" poplar round with stock stihl RS out of box for awhile now that I have been using on the other saws for testing. You eat alot of chips and bar oil this way NO clutch cover LOL.:lol::lol: . Hmmmm no sound on video.

I really wished the 362 would have been at least half the saw the 262 was, without it's problems. Unfortunately it's not, still can't say I'd turn down a 365 special though.
Looking good so far!
I'm in process of building a 51 into a 55 for my dad, maybe he can run it without burning it up like the 350 he had?
Any port work done on this Kevin? I have a hunch you don't much care for stock saws.

I had a like new 262xp that ran really good. Way over rated IMHO. Now as a race saw yes, stock no not for me. I sold the stock 262xp one, the closed port 362xp and 365 speical closed port will take it's lunch. I rank the 262xp with the MS361 and Poulan
bad boy 60cc. Now you know I dont lie on such things and have no reason to, plus I test back to back with same chains when I can. :P

The 262xp I sold. Just owners hype IMHO. ;) In the video the 262xp sounded fat, but she was turning 13.4K before and after cuts, check by tach. The poulan 60cc was right on the 262's heals.

I really liked my 362. No, it wasnt over the top, but it cut nicely, ran smooth, balanced well, and I felt had enough power. I miss that saw.

The Copsey built saw sure sounds like it has high revs...a screamer. What does it tach out at? Ever mod a 242xp? High rpms when stock...fun saw to play with.

Cool vids.

Kevin, you missed the beauty of the 262xp, sure it was about the same in the cut as the 361, but sure didn't weigh as much! It was, and is, the ultimate firewooders saw! Light, fast and powerful. It wasn't a "race saw" it wasn't a "big saw" but for firewood, it was a dream! If not for it's known problems it was a bad mamma jamma!
I've had, and ported twice, a 346xp OE, not my cup of tea, I'll never have another! A member here owns it now, and seems to like it, but it sure wasn't what I hoped for.
Different strokes for different folks I guess.....

Just a update and a cheap fix. Just in case someone else runs into this down the road someday.

I pulled a bonehead move and forgot to get a small mount clutch cover for the husky 362 and knew I had extra large mount covers that wouldnt fit. I wanted a clutch cover with tensioner in cover in small mount. Which I found out doesnt exist. Only small mount with no tensioner in cover and tensioner in crankcase with front adjust. So I went and modified one today.

This should work for husky 362 Jonsered 2063 2163, unless 2163 like late model 362xp is large mount covers and then not needed?

You have to elongated the bar stud holes in cover to get correct fitment. Take some metal off bar nut shoulder and some metal off toward the bar adjuster screw to fit the swrench in. Then take the pin coupling nut and grind the head down and make a little narrower around. Put pin coupling nut on upside down to make it fit the slot on the crankcase for the tensioner slot to ride through like normal.

Oh by the way this redneck fix saved me close to $60 in new parts + shipping. $40 cover small mount , $10 3 piece in case tensioner set and $8 for shipping.

Should have used micro setting :|:

The cover off a 346 won't fit?

That would make it even worse to try and swap. 346 has no tensioner in cover for one. Even though 346 has small bar mount it is 2" between outside edge of bar studs, where small mount 362 is 1" 3/4" between. Plus 346 cover is totally different and to short.

Pic is LEFT 365 large mount made to fit small mount 362, MIDDLE 346 cover, RIGHT 365 large mount cover stock.
