I just got a call out of the blue from a buddy of mine asking me how bad is it when you run a 50 saw mix/gas and 50 diesel. I said I have no idea because I have never been that dumb. So I ask here if anybody as seen this happen and how bad is it for the saw?

Pull the muffler and have a peek inside of it. You are looking for lines running up and down on the piston and cylinder walls. Make sure the ring moves in and out a little on the piston, not locked into place.
It depends on how much he ran it as to how much damage he did. But I can't think it ran very good like that!

I wouldn't think any internal engine, I'd be more worried about the carb, diesel tends to swell rubber seals

No but it wont ignite 2 cycle oil either. When mixed with enough gas the gas ignites and burns the diesel somewhat just like the oil. Get too much though and it wont ignite.

I doubt its too bad, diesel is a lubricant. Bet it smoked like a dog and had no power....

He said it smoked pretty good like he was "fogging for skeeters" I told him to drain the tank and the lines and run it to see.

The diesel we have in cars here no lubricant, it is dry.

You need to add lubricant to fuel if it is a engine without oilpan and lubrication system.

When I worked for the state forest service, we had gas delivered by tanker truck.

One smart trucker had just delivered a load of diesel and forgot to empty his hose when he pumped our saw gas.

The sample they took from the gas container after every saw on the district seized, showed 20% diesel mixed in.

The fuel company ( Q8) paid for new saws for everybody.

Bet that truck driver got his ass chewed, badly!!

Stihl concluded that the amount of diesel was enough to raise the working temperature to the point where the saws seized.

I lost my beloved MS 064 that day.

Got it replaced with a MS 066 with nthe little green/yellow light, that was upposed to change colour when you adjusted the saw to the right mixture ( RPMs).

Piece of crap never ran right and eventually I switched it for a 660, which certainly didn't measure up to the old 064, either.

One day I came to the conclusion that the oil Stihl Super improves diesel engine. I will add 100 grams of oil for 80 liters of diesel fuel in Maxus. The engine runs very softly ...

I've ran those old D4 Cats on straight kerosine in below zero weather and it never hurt them a bit .Yes they will start but it takes almost forever until they warm up enough to run right when it's that cold .

Now I wouldn' have thought diesel fuel would have harmed a saw engine but perhaps Europian diesel is formulated differently than the stuff we have in North America .Remember both Magnus and Stig are refering to countries where it gets cold enough to freeze the ballz off a brass monkey in winter time too .

A number of years ago they changed the formulation on diesel fuel .The stuff now is clear like K-1 kerosine .In older stuff like my old Cats it doesn't run as good as the old yellowish diesel fuel .

I have to wonder on this if perhaps with a bunch of diesel mixed with gasoline if it might promote actual detonation within the cylinder of a saw engine .If so that certainly would do damage .

The diesel crowd kinda whines about soybean diesel fuel .They claim it doesn't do as well as petrolium based fuel .All that is except the farmers who raise the beans .

That makes sense though because a farmer who wouldn't go with the flow would be like a chicken voting for Col Sanders as president .
