All round ground saw choice - 460 or 660?

Hello, title says it, Im going to invest in one of these saws to perform all tasks my 201t cannot. Ill have a few different length bars too, maybe a 20, and a 32. Power/weight ratio? Im well used to a 66 in the tree so its not a bother. Im steering towards a dual ported 460 that will perform like a 66 but is lighter... Im going the eBay way, today or tomorrow. prices between 500 - 650. Any input welcome

You have no worries buying used? Certainly is a big savings if the saw lasts.

No no worries. I bought an 044 in the uk off ebay and its still sitting in my Dads loft waiting to be used! Lots of choice on used saws

It's hard to beat a 460 for a versatile saw...that said if I had to pick between that and a 66, I'd go with a 66. No replacement for displacement

Good advice. I started with a 192t and a 460... I have 2 460s, but for some reason now I grab either a 372xp or a 660. If you plan on getting one ground saw long term, hard to beat the 460!

I ported a 460 with a big bore kit and man it out cut my 066. I was bummed when it blew up after a year

I really like the 75cc class for an all around saw. The 660 just doesnt get used as much for us. That said.if you've already got an 044 then I would definitely go 660. What length bar does stihl rate the 460's to? We run a 24" on ours and a 36" on the 660.

I run a 440 and a 660 all the time....32" bar on 44........36" and 42" bar on 66

Invest in the most advanced big bore saw on the market..... MS661 CM
I demoed one last summer and I was very impressed, my 395XP now seems like a overweight dinosaur .
661 all the saw you need, equipped it with a 20", 28", 36" b/c you got all the versatility you need. No need for modifications, just enjoy years of good service what the factory designed it to do.

I like the 460. The wieght of the 661 wears on me a bit. But if there is only room for one saw, there is no replacement for displacement.

I don't have a 460, but a guy used to bring me his relatively unused one from time to time to get checked out and tuned up. He'd leave it for months at a time, so I'd put my own chains on it and use it for a change of scenery, which he didn't care about. He's an old mountain man that likes his gear, but with little sentimental attachment. I never was very impressed with the power it put out given the displacement. Generally I like the saw, but as you guys are saying, I'd be looking to modify one if it was in my kit.

I can't believe so many people would choose a 66 if they could only have one. I had two 46's before I ever bought a 66. Now you want to talk about a dog of a saw in stock trim? A new 660. I was so disappointed in my 660 when I bought it it's what got me into having saws modded.
