Nothing ground shattering here, just found a good secondary use for my Buckingham AFC.

I was looking at what I wanted to use for my footloop to my handled ascender. I had my AFC handy. Clipped a 'biner from the large ring to the strap to cinch around my foot, and clipped the adjustable prussik'ed ring to the ascender. Insta-one hand adjustable length footloop (feed the tail through the secondary tenex loop to mind the prussik-- see picture half way down page http://www.wesspur.com/friction-savers/friction-saver.html).

I used it in the tree to get off the crotchless lower trunk after a canopy raise. Multi-purpose.

longer in one pic, one hand adjusted to shorter in the other.

Nothing fancy. Usually I'll just use some rigging webbing slings, but they're not infinitely adjustable in length. I didn't use any slings when pruning these trees, but did want to use the false crotch to lower out after starting with the rope in another tree through a crotch. I was able to stand on dead stubs with a lanyard to reset my rope from one tree to the other.

I figure its lighter than an AFC AND a hand ascender footloop. Nothing to rig on these trees, so no need for slings, but I did need the AFC to get off the bare lower trunk. A unique situation, no doubt.

I'd have been a bit worried about being able to transition from the ascender system to the descent system; needing the AFS in footloop function to be able to step up and release an ascender so you could transfer weight to the descender, which is mounted on your descent line running through the AFS around the bole...except you're using it as a footloop :|:.

Obviously you worked it out...as I read your posts more closely, I think I can visualize it.

My system was a DdRT installed from the ground with a leather cambium saver in tree one for a canopy raise and Cobra install. Lowered down and pulled myself over on some long dead branches into another tree with a bunch of dead wood and a low live limb, stubbed branches off on the way up. Got to the top of the deadwooding with a gap to the next live branches. Installed AFC in tree 2 which I used in to ascend into tree 1 as an adj footloop. De-stubbed on the way down.
