so, i seen it in the saw shop,
rebuilt
had a bad piston, everything else was fine
runs sweet, has a 36 inch bar
for $250.00
i figured its a good deal..
anyone know much about this model?

The 288 is a good saw, but I think a reworked 372 or 385 is better. I'd get it though and use it or just flip it as it's probably worth 375.00 or more if clean and in good shape.

That sounds like a great deal. I have a 288xp. It is in the shop right now but has been a fine saw. Powerful and handles well.

Sometimes "a little underpowered" saw can be Wayne Newton turning into Lenny Kravitz, with some modification. Not exactly hormone therapy...

288 is not underpowered. its simply not a high RPM saw. Lots of balls for the weight. Ive been running a 288XP Lite for some years now and love mine. There are faster saws to be had, but I still love mine.
