Yeah, the dirt in the cut, both the girdling and later, especially so since I'm going to be digging out one side as it sits on a little slope. I could clear out the cut with a carbide chain and short bar that I have, then use a longer bar to finish it. A new cut above is a good idea too, as MB...

Thanks Jed. That is a nice spot, only a couple minutes away to go sit and eat my lunch. I sealed the cuts and covered them with plywood and corrugated metal. I'm in no hurry to cut off the lower section, plan to run a saw around the bottom to stop any water transfer that would continue...

There was some plastic ground covering there as well, something they use when planting. The whole lead going that way would have torn it up pretty bad. I just nicked it up. :D

Probably didn't have to, but I just thought the balance might be a little questionable. Your point is well taken though, plus the trunk had slight lean to the lay. Just kind of wanted to climb it as it turned out, hardly ever get up into the broad limbed trees. I did learn something cutting...

It all went real straight forward like. Flopped the more leaning lead with a plunge cut and tripping from the back, worked super well. The farmer kept saying that he had never seen anything like that. I climbed the remaining one and dropped the two limbs coming off the back, then it was easy...

A high torque saw can make starting a bore cut a little difficult too. I love my 034 with the modified 036 top end on it, light and mean. Kicks out, though, bore cuts are like whoa!

Well, it's on for the day after tomorrow, I'll get an exact time for you when the tree succumbs, Erik. Some divergence of opinion here, but considering everyone's good intentions, I'm confident that it is all going to magically materialize into a plan of auction at the sight. One...

When in doubt use 12 mm is what I see here. Unfortunately, don't have one. I have some 3/4" stable braid, wonder which is stronger? Hate to see that break.

You mean the cable? I've only ever busted one, but that was pulling with a large excavator.

Not much to hit. One point to note, is although the leads are leaning generally favorable, they are also leaning at about 130 degrees opposite each other, a wide spread. It is going to land on soft ground. You think a 10 mm cable could bust? I'd put the ratchet on the side away from the...

I guess about 20-24 inches, Willie. Yes, the neighbor helped me out once, told me of the vacant building which is currently my shop, guess I owe him.

Yeah, Stephen. It's a sad state of affairs when one has to go though such a dilemma for a hundred and twenty bucks, that's all I can say.

I see, I do have cable and a ratchet tightening mechanism. Guess I will look at it again with the possibility to climbing and cabling it as high as I can, then cutting at the base. I also see Sean's perspective. Guess I need to make up my mind.

To clarify, both leads have acceptable lean, one also has almost all it's limbs going toward the lean, the one on the left when facing this photo, such that I was thinking barberchair was a concern when flopping it separately. The other lead has limbs going with and opposite the lean, probably...

Not quite, Erik, but at least moving in that direction. Gee, Willie's wedges look like they never have been used, what's up about that? I'd sure like to fall it in one deal, but there are differing opinions here. Interesting to see how that would go, and certainly save some time. Hadn't...
