I just blow the fillter off with compresed air over the weekend. That works fine. But then I don't put nearly the hours on my saws that the rest of you do.

Fiona, you can probably guess what my answer is. If you can afford it, go for it. The guy who subs for me logging was all about how good the 462 is. I let him run my 500i for a day. Next week he bought one for himself and his apprentice.

Interesting info. I'll talk to my dealer, who happens to be the most Stihl knowleadge guy in Denmark, about it.

You need the primer bulb to set pressure on the system when cold starting the saw. Just like you need a fuel pump on a car.

For 100 year old Beech it is just right. Perfect solution to that problem. We started cutting for the State Forest today, next 4 months we'll just be doing that. The 500i is going to earn it's keep on those trees.

1000 hours of saw time in a year. That is ½ a year for me and the crew, each. Last year we put 10,000 cubic meters of hardwoods on the ground. Honestly, I hope never to have to do that again. I get what you are saying, but 40+ years of running saws have ruined my ears badly, I think running...

That Irish gent should have sharpened his saw before making a video. Also, learning to match your cuts when doing face cuts, saves you from the embarassment of having to bang the wedge out with an axe. Frankie, unlike you I'm not so hung up on power. Of course I enjoy the fact that the 500i is...

So, I've been using the 500i since spring. I'm still in love. The simplicity of it is just great. Never have to wonder if it is time for putting on the choke, just pull the handle and off we go. I've had it sitting for up to 3 hours and it still starts on second pull. In fact, I don't think...

I didn't need one either, Burnham. I simply couldn't help myself once I tried it.

I've been laid up with some broken ribs, so I haven't used it a lot.

If you are not logging, the 462 will be the better deal IMO. For those of us who live by how many cubic meters of wood, we can get on the ground in a day, The 500i is it.

We usually get about 2000 hours out of our 70 cc saws. Sometimes with a carburator rebuild and having the bearing sels switched out. I'vfe never had do have the rings switched. Is that unusual? We run alkylate fuel only, that may help on the longevity.

If I'm logging, the saw is running. So I count logging days as 7½ hours of saw time. Had 7 months of those last year. Frankie, you know as well as I do, that the 056 saws that run today, have spent most of their life hibernating on a shelf. Show me an 056 that has been logging flat out since it...

I'm looking forwards to that as well. The 462 has pretty much proved itself to be durable, we have about 1000 hours on the 5 , we have. The 500i is another thing. With no carburator membranes to go bad, my guess is, it'll run true for a long time. I bought it today, but logging season ended...

The 500i has it as well. Actually, if one bothered to read the manual, it is in there.

So I finally got to put two days of oak logging in, then the winter season ended. I didn't get to run the saw at all, yesterday. Everybody and their grandmother wanted to try it out. Now, I don't know about Grandma, but everybody else loved it. Not enough to swap their 1 year old 462s out for...
