But I'm not dead yet ... Age and climbing

Looks like I'm about to lose a really good guy, too. Former apprentice, the one who was hit by a car when we went on a company motorcycle trip to Norway last year. He is still frigged up from the accident. After he had been bothered by back pain, that nobody really could find the reason for...

But I'm not dead yet ... Age and climbing

I just made the biggest one tree estimate ever, last month. Got a call from another arborist that we have helped out on some tough ones before. After giving him my price, I suggested he call the one outfit on the Island who has a big crane. Hell of a price difference between owning one and...

Butch, my dear. You think being in shape is about having big muscles. If your cardiovascular system is out of shape, those won't do you much good in a fight, in fact they'll drain you of oxygen and make you give up faster than if you were a slim type.

But I'm not dead yet ... Age and climbing

You and me both, kid :D I fully intend to stay at it as long as I can. This time of not working has really shown me how fast my body deteriorates, when I'm out of the woods. I'd have to spend 4 hours every day in a gym to keep in fighting trim, and I HATE gyms.

But I'm not dead yet ... Age and climbing

The thing to do is to prepare yourself for it, mentally. To most people, suicide is not an option, simply because the idea of doing it has never ebntered their mind. For those of us who are real believers in the " ice floe" solution, it is something that has been thought through often, the...

Jimster, I don't think of you as being fat. No more than I though of the Grizzly bear I met in Alaska, maybe a month before hibernation time, as being fat. Those forwarder/harvester driving kids have no muscles whatsoever, except those needed to control a joystick. Get in a fight with one, it...

But I'm not dead yet ... Age and climbing

When I started working in the woods, I was cutting pulp. Mechanical harvesters weren't invented yet, so there was no " Work smarter" method. Truth be told, when I see those fat kids who run the harvesters today, I'll rather be a worn out old logger .

But I'm not dead yet ... Age and climbing

I have no intention of retiring before they carry me out of the woods. I like my work, always have. I'd rather wear myself out working than end up like my dad, who didn't know what to do with himself once he retired. Ended up disappearing into a bottle. Being able to go on logging and climbing...
