Thank you for the correction, Willard! I knew it was all around the same time, but unsure how it all unfolded!

And you probably never will! I think it was only done for a year and a half? It was a short lived experiment. Most of the problems came with the polly flywheel Stihl used at the time. They would disintegrate at high RPM causing a lot of problems. Most, if not all, have been upgraded with the...

To "simplify", it had a red LED above the adjustment screws for the carb, you would adjust the "H" screw at WOT until the LED was blinking rapidly. This meant the ignition was reaching the designed RPM for the saw.

Yup, looking at those pics now I know for sure the adjustment is on the starter side on the other saws! There were a lot of neat features introduced on the RL edition saws, that even just now we are starting to appreciate! It was way ahead of it's time! I can still fine .404 chain, not that I...

Good catch! I was thinking something looked off with it, I think? most of the other saws have the adjustment screws on the other side as well?

    064 with a 25' bar.

I agree, but I can't justify Cannon bars, certainly not now! I really like the GB titaniums myself, for the money. Almost as durable as the Stihl ES bars, but a lot less money! I've got a Forester on my 5100 that seems to be holding up well so far, but I haven't really been in a position to push...

I just call my buddy in WI, I don't buy chains or bars local anymore, Stihl has gotten outrages with prices!

32" GB Titanium, not sure why, but here in the central part of the states it's next to impossible to get .050, everything is .063, or .058.

    Fine then, .063 106dl's.

Yeah, I don't really get the 25" thing either, but it's what it's called so it's easier to walk in and ask for that then walk in and ask for a 24" and have the salesman look at you and say "HUH?" Honestly, if you plan on using the 20" in the tree, use the 361! Plenty of power for that bar, and...

I agree, there isn't enough weight difference between the two to go with the lesser powered unit. Only thing I'd have done different, I'd have gone with a 25" bar, it really does balance a lot better with the longer bar on it.

I know the 046 with a 25" just feels about perfect! With the 32" mines a nose heavy pig!

I don't know if the 461 is that greatly improved over the 460, but I've watched a stock 046 run a 32" in White Oak, it was painful! My BB ported 046 pulls it good, but there was a lot of work done to that saw! Well, Stihl says it's ok...

As I understand it, 2012/2013 all saws have to meet new EPA standards, Stihl started with the most popular/largest selling saws and is working its way up the size list. So yes, they will be replaced as well.
