In the above picture could you clip the standing end of the line into the becket of the pinto?

I think I was using 6 coils as well.

I tried out 8mm OP and HRC today. I really like the way the HRC feels, although I had to get that hitch almost as tight as I could or it got a little too "sporty" for my taste. Runs really smooth, though, the HH just keeps getting better and better. :)

OK, so it's not just me then. Although in my case the banyan goo definitely was contributing and probably making it worse. Adam, I remember you were going to try the pinto spacer on the biner. Did you ever give that a shot? If so, did you experience the same problem, and how was overall...

Thanks Paul. Sorry for the unnecessary hand wringing. :)

I just took the Hitch Hiker off my Velocity with the idea to try it out on some Poison Ivy and discovered a big blob of banyan sap stuck on the aluminum back plate right where the carabiner pinches the rope. This might explain things getting stickier than usual. I'll clean it up and report...

I didn't even think of that Dave! I will check that for sure. Thanks.

The cord loop works just fine to advance the HH, although it doesn't look as pretty as some that have been posted here. I'm not sure what kind of cord it is. I just went in to the sailing shop and picked the stiffest 5mm cord they had and bought a meter of it off the reel. I still haven't...

Here's a couple more pictures, which may or may not be useful. I'm not really seeing an indentation big enough to cause this. I'll give it a try on a fatter rope sometime soon and report back.

Hi Paul, thanks for the reply. There is a very slight indentation on one side of the channel. I'm not sure it's enough to cause the problem I'm having. I've put some pictures here so you can take a look at it anyways. I'm using the CT carabiner that came with the HH. Surveyor, when you say...

I'm having a small issue with my HH setup. Occasionally upon releasing the hitch I find myself stuck. I think the carabiner is pinned on to the rope with such force that even with the hitch fully released I don't go anywhere. After a moment it usually lets go, but then there is a small drop...

Jack, I like your idea of using the chest attachment. I usually use my lanyard over the shoulder or a webbing chest sling, so I can just clip the elastic into that as well. Should be a much cleaner system. Also, I picked up a DMM Revolver to clip into the bottom of the ascender for making a...

For those that are using the footloop ascender below the HH: is it possible to just attach the elastic directly to the saddle? Or would the elastic then not be long enough to have adequate stretch? It would be really nice not to have advance it with the hands, have it all automatically advancing.

I'm sure my eyes are deceiving me, but just in case, it looks like there's no stopper on the end of your lanyard. If so, that's a Bad Thing.

Brendon, the hitch on the HH still needs to be dialed in to find that sweet spot, but it is much easier to do than with a traditional VT/pulley system. And once you've got it, it seems to stay set. And I'll echo what Nick said. The HH has the least amount of sitback (almost imperceptible) of...

Brendon, just measured mine for you. About 10.5" from the bottom of the biner to the top of the hitch, when pulled tight. In actual usage I don't notice any difference in the distance of the hitch from the previous hitchclimber setup that I was using. The HH adds a bit of length, but it's...

Thanks, I had the legs the other way around but then remembered that the pictures that came with it were like you described. Seemed to still work fine, though. After more time on it I still think it's a great climbing tool. I've still got a lot to learn about tie-in-points, redirects, and...

So I went for a fun climb with a group of local climbers today and got to try out the Hitch Hiker for the first time. And I have to say, this is one sweet, sweet tool. I can't remember the last time I got up a rope so quickly and so easily. And with minimal gear! All I used was a foot...
