Ha, thanks Kyle... my friend recently retired from his long time job and is just getting into this. So I am glad to work with him :)
The other guy is his neighbor who is in the tree business (a smallish operation I think) and after I do the job, I was thinking about contacting him and seeing...
Just to bring this full circle.
I just spoke with my friend.
He had gotten 2 other bids for his 3 tree removals.
He gave another guy the 2 dead rotten trees at the one house.
And I matched his lowest bid for the single tree in the small front yard (the 3rd tree in the pictures at the...
I don't have a chipper... my disposal method so far is to bring it back home, and that is what I would plan to do if I get this job.
I'm looking for a trailer now which should mean many fewer trips if I haul stuff off.
But if I start getting removal jobs I'll need to come up with a good...
Yeah, the cat rescue.... that is what Peter Jenkins, my climbing instructor said he did a lot of... and now I hear that drone rescue is a potential niche.
As for firewood... haha I grew up with a fireplace in the house and I like it for the "ambiance" ... watching wood burn inside the house :)...

>>> Thanks ALL .... at the end of this post is the quote/bid I gave my friend for the work ---- all comments welcome!

@Kyle - Thanks for all the detailed help. This is very helpful to help get the big picture.
> Thanks for the advice on just climbing without cutting...
Yeah, Brian.... but I don't trust those 2 rotten ones to climb (maybe when I get some more experience with more dead/rotten trees I will have a better idea of what I can trust).....
and I still haven't gotten any climbing gear yet....
* I still haven't decided whether I'm too old and...
Thanks a lot for the great post and advice, Kyle!
Yes, I am a little intimidated at pulling a lift behind my truck and then maneuvering it when I get to the job site, especially on one which has a 92" wide gate opening and not a lot of room to maneuver in the back yard.
My truck (2500) is...
Thanks Kyle. This is great advice to consider.
Also, I do try to be all about safety, but standing in the pickup bed with a pole saw seemed pretty safe.
But these would be the only jobs I had at the time if I get them.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your advice.
Tree09/Kyle - Thanks a lot for your comments and advice and perspective (yes, sir, I can proudly say I am insured :)
Mick - thanks for your reply!
I hope to stand just in the bed... but in case I need another foot of reach I was considering the hood
I think the limbs are small enough and/or far...
New information.....
I decided (thanks to murphy4trees idea ?) to go with a power pole saw from my pickup truck (bed or hood) and piece down all overhanging branches/limbs (e.g. next to or over house, street, obstacles, etc.) to get the "crown" safely contained, then fell down the remaining...
Good info. and great pics, tstimber.
More pieces of the puzzle coming together from all angles and perspectives.
This "Treehouse" is a very valuable (i.e. irreplaceable) "all things tree work" website for somebody like me.
I really appreciate everyone's time and interest in sharing their...
Thanks All!
Sean -- Thanks for ALL the great detailed tips and info. I have heard about boring in vertical with the tip of the bar, but was never 100% confident that it was a safe technique (not compromising the trunk somehow). It is good to know that you use this technique.
Butch -- Thanks...
Thanks Sean. I've been trying to learn about these things like included bark at branch unions, etc.
Yeah, that 3rd one would be a main candidate for that, as well as not being fooled by any defects/evidence hidden by all that other plant growth around the trunk and the root collar. I actually...
Thanks All!
Sean -- Thanks!
* It appears I can rent a 35' towable boom lift for ~$300 a day. The only problem with this is that it is non-mobile other than via the truck hitch so I have to position it and work from one spot, but I believe each tree could be done with a single positioning per...
Recently had a chance to bid on a tree removal job -- 3 smallish trees....
but I passed on it because:
* two of them were too risky: the were dead and/or rotten too near the house
* one was in a confined space in a small front yard.
Would anyone care to comment about how you would have gone...
