I rarely grind the flare off and then come behind on the new clean wood with a saw to take the piece down, especially of I don;t have to clean up the chips..Thinnk I did that once this year.. big oak stump over 3.5' tall...
I just keep pucshing the pile out of the way then let the machine do...

not a denist.. they were trying to remove it by hand and got a lot farther than I would have expected.. Woman made my day when she started swinging that pick like a man... When there eas a piece of angle iron tying the stump to the curb the man brought out his sawsall and cut...

Have you ever used one???? don;t let the numbers fool you.. the lawns have to e pretty sloppy for it to leave tracks.. This machine bumped mine to the next level..
The new generation has a sensor that automatically shuts down the motor if no one is stanbding in front of the control panel. I didn't like the feature at first,. but do think it is safer after using it a while..

I had a little tiny shrub stump to do by the front corer of the garage. I mean less than 2 minutes of actual grinding.. Figured I didn't need the respirator ... how much dust could there be. Just as I got into the driveway the latest incarnation of chemlawn shows up and it stank so bad I was...
Keep a couple cones in the truck for traffic and marking pipes etc around big stumps where it's easy to get lost int he chips and take out something of value..
I notice when the teeth are dull a white cloud of smoke coming off the stump... vaporized wood fiber????... Sharp teeth keep the dust down a good bit, but in the summer when the ground is dry as soon as the wheel hits diry up comes a hige cloud of lung jamming dust

Good to consider.. man just wasn't made to inhale that kind of dust, day in and day out. I will almost always wear a respirator when grinding. My lungs just say no to dust these days. I can;t be around for the final clean up when they are blowing dust on a tree job either. ALso...
Looks like torture to me...
this old monster had uprooted, gone over, then when the tree was cut the stump fell back across the creek... New machine made quick work of it..
I've been thinking about getting into stumps for street trees...
I used a lacrosse net covered with tarps as a chip screen once and it worked pretty well...
Ya he found a partner to finance his new profession, flipping houses... He said all his friends in the tree business are driving old beaters while all his buddies that are doing real estate are driving new benzes
