@SeanKroll yes, I should have taken a vid walking around. The whole place is a lot of wonky angles. I had to pay careful attention to my cuts to keep them right, and even then my humboldt was off. I don’t usually use them, need to practice. That turned out to be my saving grace though as the...

YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/embed/VfipkJvQJ3k I think that works. Shorts are very irritating. It forces the vid to upload as a short and they don't link well. I had to copy the embed link on my desktop and then prune it.

Can’t get the YT Short to link…I guess go to this one, then my other vids, and you can find the ‘chair vid.

A couple faller friends told me that an open vs. closed face helps prevent ‘chairing. Then this pops up to prove the point.

@gf beranek maybe it’s in the book and I don’t remember, but do you have a rule of thumb for how high to hook on to trees to pull? Leverage vs. speed exchange…I think I should have gone lower on this one.

Ah. I didn’t recognize the noun disguised as a verb.I thought it was an abbreviated tree term.

Eh…I dunno, you guys have more exp but the more I think about it, my gut says it wasn’t that close to chairing. Probably from watching all those shark gill cuts, but I didn’t have gills. I have pulled over a lot of big salt cedars with my 6x6 with thick hinges (weak/unsound wood hanging over a...

Yes, too thick. Being a solid pine, barberchair wasn’t at the forefront of my mind. I usually wrap everything just in case. Let me see how well I can remember the process: took the bark off, laid down a landing log. May have been too small, but too big might have contributed to bounce…? Guy...

Yeah…one of these days. For now, wannabe logger cheating with a pull line. I don’t climb yet and don’t care to drag the lift up there (in the mountains). Also doubt it would reach. When the opportunity arises, I do want to use the winch in the truck to zip line stuff onto my trailer bed.

Got logs. My preferred lay would be towards that wooden triangle rustic yard art thing. 45° out of the corner, least chance of hitting anything house related. Just about bet some oak is gonna get smashed.

@SeanKroll I think the hanger you are referring to is a limb a climber was removing when the pic was taken. Said climber declined to fell the tree. Bounce is an issue that occurred to me as well. I need to go see the lay. I was thinking a retainer line to the truck above the cut, and as high...
