The temperatures around here have risen nearly 60 degrees since the cold spell hit and it's still not going to get warm enough to begin melting. This is not unusual though. The snow that falls here in October typically remains until April. We've had many snow days in May. It's not terribly...
Currently 10 PM on Tuesday, Jan. 28th, 2019. It's cold........sure.......but this cold spell is being blown way out of proportion by the media.
Christmas of 1983 was the coldest I've ever seen it. It hit -44 back then. Tonight it's going to get down to about -31F.
Super Bowl Sunday, 2007...

High temps of around 20. Lows in the single digits. The forecast for the next 10 days suggests that the temps will only continue to drop. Single digits below zero for lows next week. No snow yet.......well, a slight dusting.

December 2013 produced the 4th coldest winter here in northeastern North Dakota since record keeping began back around 1890. This latest cold spell produced temperatures of 29 below zero here in Cando, ND......which is about 12 degrees warmer than our record lows.
While the most recent cold...
Another new record low for this date in April. +9 degrees this morning, breaking the previous record low for April 23rd, which was +17 degrees, set in 1988.
It appears that this trend of record cold weather for North Dakota is about to come to an abrupt end.....and I can't wait. We haven't...
We woke up this morning to +1 degree. We set a new record low for this date in April. The previous record low for April 20th was +17, set in 1966.
Phooey

19 degrees. Cloudy. Dark clouds in the area full of snow, but no snow here yet. The weatherman keeps teasing me. Says we'll hit 40 degrees for the first time this year sometime later in the month.......but I've heard this before.

Masterblaster, It's quite a life up here, for sure. The heating season has already lasted 230 days......and counting. I've burned through nearly 13 cords of firewood, and now I'm nearly out. It's going to be a busy summer.
Trees aren't easy to come by up here on the "frozen tundra"...
Trade ya, AborKeith. Woke up this morning to -2 degrees on April 9th. No wind this morning though, so I'm not complaining too loudly. We broke the record low this morning, which was previously at +8. Setting a new record low in North Dakota isn't easy to do. LOL
Joel
18 degrees and blowing out of the north at 24 mph, with a resulting wind chill of 2 degrees below zero. This winter seems to have lasted forever......and still going strong.
Joel
Snowing here in Cando too. We still have snow drifts in the yard that are more than 7 feet deep. I keep saying that Spring will be here soon......about the same time we start loading up the furnace with firewood....I suppose. Typical North Dakota summer.......all both weeks of it.
