Willie, one more favor. What are the dimensions on the drum? The diameter/length of the pipe the rope wraps around, and the diameter of the 2 paddles on the ends. How much rope you have on there? Looks liek 3/8"? I am thinking 100-150" would be nice.

Do you know your chippers GPM? What's the speed like on that motor? I found one.....

I think I got it, the lever side is the business end. The side where the motor is, is just a pillow block. Too advanced for Brendon's homebrewness.

Really? I talked to Bob Engler, he wasn't to sure about mounting a winch on top of the infeed. He said "I know how you tree guys are, you'll rip the chipper in 2 with a winch". Maybe he came back to reality about thats not happening.

Found a pic of Woodsman OEM winch, kinda a crazy contraption. They mount the winch on top of the drum housing, then it looks like most of the down pressure is generated onto the top of the chute. Makes me feel good about mine/our design.

Warn, Ramsey, any big name makes hydro. winches. The Ramsey was about $1k if I remember right. The reason why we didn't use one, is they required 12-15GPM to operate at full speed. My chipper has 7 GPM, so without changing the pump, the critter above was born. You can always build one like...

Tis probably the first. :D The only way the winch "works" is if you keep slight tension on the rope. When I had it on the mini I dragged an 8' oak log with so little tension I put the rope in my teethe and walked backwards. It's one of a kind fo sho.
