I touched up my blades, yesterday. 5 minutes of work. Great results. I don't recall how long it's been since changing blades. I am very diligent about only chipping clean material, hauling off dirty rakings that have gravel. I don't chip like many people, here, do. Limbs are commonly...

That $90 savings compared to the potential cost of a breakdown... The aftermarket serpentine belt for my Honda van works, but squeaks because it's not as thick as oem...dampening or some such explanation. Now, I'm in the hook for an oem Honda belt and more time into a swap.

Probably needs to feed them with a couple green logs.

Is there a reason for half way? In my armchair, I would think that slowing the feed is for when the autofeed is activated too much/ bogging down the engine too much and faster feeding would be useful for smaller limbs. Maybe not worth messing with it.

My grinder's sweep has a variable-flow valve that bypasses some of flow to those two cylinders, thereby affecting the sweep speed. Pretty simple, I think.

I've been doing it for about 15 years. You're overthinking, IMO. This sharpener is an easy, pre-chipping, 5 minute or less touch-up on a CnD. (4) 16" blades accessible from the feed tray. From 10 to 30, 2-way passes from one edge to the rough middle, then the same number from the other side...

Are you touching-up the edge? Chip quality is an indicator. Anvil condition (squareness of the edge) and gap setting area crucial. Let's see pics of your blades and anvil.

If my chipper was easier for blade changes and chipped 'OK' when beat up in the middle of the job, I'd be less concerned, and change them more often. I can still machine-feed full-sized piles after maybe a year, maybe more. Miriam is diligent about keeping rocks out, like me. Sharp is...

I can't remember how long it's been since changing knives. I'm meticulous about no hand-scooping on dirt or gravel. Pick it up for feeding, or take it and dispurse into the woods or load it into a trailer/ truck (rarely drive my chip truck). I'm about due. You can easily touch up blades, but...

https://autofeedplus.com/ Without autofeed, you definitely have to manually prevent overload. Sharp knives, fresh anvil edges, and proper anvil spacing from the blades are important. A manual sharper helps blade changes last longer and chip better with less fuel and wear and tear.

There are a lesser number at 90⁰ that are meant to work better for palm fronds. Most are 45⁰.

I would feed chunks like that with other material to take up more of the horizontal part of the throat, as a guess.

Interesting. Almost all my chipping had been with a drum chipper.

Look for a place where water is getting in. Could be condensation. Could be a leak. My chip truck had a loose top cover, allowing water from the road into the gear oil of the manual transmission.
