I know enough to tighten the chain so it sings. Hard to throw the blade that way!

The maple logs in front we're set there by machine. The fir logs in the back, along with all but one trunk chunk, came down by 'Magic', all where there were supposed to land. This log was wider than my 28" bar; I wasn't aiming for a precision hinge cut, so it was easy and fast to chase...

P.S. I'm not as young as my chipper. I'm 45 y.o., its 43 and hungry. I'm not nearly so hungry as when I started out. Now I eat what's served, barring another reception, knowing more food will be served. The chipper (KiKi, so dainty, the daughter of the previous owner) is a F-ing Glutton...

That was a cake walk, Gary, honestly. These wind-whipped trees are more 'thin' of foliage than one grown out of the wind. I drug up and chipped those branches in about 15 minutes (I threw them like I was going to be picking them up), and another 10 for a bit of rake and blow (rough clean-up)...

This 36" dbh fir near Puget Sound had the original trunk up to 80', where two 40' co-dominant tops were, until the recent windstorm. The homeowner is a therapist who had to cancel patient appointments last week, and is booked m-w, so yesterday I rolled solo, wanting to finish the job and move...

Probably not average for many decades, either.

No, since I have the luxury of having a variety of saw sizes ready to go, on hand, I'll pick up a smaller, lighter saw and take a bit more time holding the trigger down. I use my 193t a lot for limbing stuff up. Residential work has so little trigger time compared to logging. In the...

If I'm ever in question about the top, I use a wedge. A large wedge will pound a small wedge for a tipping a top, if swung like hammer. I can push a small top pretty hard. I can wedge over a top with a hatchet if its bigger. If the top is resisting, gutting the hinge from the face-cut is...

I could imagine enough "what ifs" to stay in bed, meanwhile... Physics are physics, no reason to stick to 4'. Again. Longer logs, Humboldt.

4' lengths are pretty short, imo. Millable log-lengths/ easier to load lengths, faster to get back on the ground lengths are preferable to me.

Daniel, how does the back cut height compare to the face cut floor height? Thanks.

Its a self-releasing snap cut. The snipe gives it room to tip, and aim. You can shoot well with vertical chunks in any tree I've tried it on.

I should say that I use humboldts with this cut, typically. Longer logs will want to hop the spar a little with a conventional. By all means, practice on the ground first. By the time you are down close to the ground with a spar, you sometimes don't need a hinge. Hinges are super important...
