Certainly, beat feet if there is no reason to still be cutting!

These dampening branches came up recently. A climber referred a dead hemlock removal my way. I knocked it out. He asked if it was hard and if I climbed another tree and came in from above. i said it was easy. I climbed it to top it first, while the bulk of the dead crown remained. The...

Hot asphalt is more malleable. Road are built tougher than driveways. That thing bounced! A straight spar, hitting on the end would be worse, I suspect. I've put partial depth cuts in a deciduous spar to break on impact with plywood covered asphalt, bridging the sidewalk, in a mobile home...

I was thinking more of a barberchair prevention thread. Pulling the trees to failure would have been safer.

I've barberchaired an Alder that was butted up that same way, which controlled it plenty, it still hinged, and fell without incident, with me plenty out of the way. IIRC, my hinge was in front of the pith, where I believe it split. Gerry, you've mentioned very deep cutting of barberchair prone...

Favor for a neighbor, 'Brother Charlie'. Used it as an opportunity to work in one side of it while she worked the other side. Her trunk was her second full climbing removal , second non- vertical/ non-conifer climbing work, previously having deadwooded a large flowering cherry tree. First spur...

I've used it a little. Generally, the mini is enough with me operating. I've spun my chipper 180⁰ after backing in, allowing me to blow chips in the rear of the yard. Some other time, too. I simply bolted it on the tongue for the use, then removed it.

Actually, I have a a tripod stumper, so another odd- number count. Actually, I have a large swivel caster for my chipper, so I'm back to even. Not counting spares. All working. I better recount. 2 dually. 12 SRW pick up. 16 Van 20 Chipper 23 Trailers 33 Grinder 36 Hand truck 38 Log...

I've never... well, don't go saying it... I always use a breakaway saw lanyard. I've taken to zip ties for hanging rigging ropes on my saddle, too.

Setting up for one-hand stow and retrieve is worthwhile, especially with an electric top-handle (my cs2500t is out of commission, at the moment... it takes a lanyard on the base of the wrap handle and its stiff, rear ring is well suited). It's been low on my list. I am wont to say that I've got...

Its a stock, breakaway saw lanyard. Might have an extra carabiner in the hookup, by chance.

I typically hang my saw. This was probably a time where I didn't want to take my attention away from safely and quickly unsheathing my hand saw and paying attention to any movement of the top, so just tossed the saw and rather than getting the lanyard ring on my saw hook (not set up as...

All 4 trees would reach the house, if felled, not stripped and persuaded. They all grew, trunk and limbs, to the south, toward the house. This third ree was growing the most offset from the stump. It was slowest to taper. I considered pulling it into the wetland area, but couldn't get...

Thanks for the comment. Discussion is good. That was not an exemplary catch of the least peak force possible, and seemed pretty light...I had a smooth 180⁰ bend over the crotches. That was the healthiest of the four. I didn''t want to climb higher than that rigging point, as it was rotten at...

Running my growing climber through a natural-crotch square rigging set-up. Rotten tree. Not room or need to let it run, much. Brushed it down the firs to slow it.
