Waste of effort, and not a safer option. No disrespect to Augusts guys, or Mark C, but they only delay the inevitable, and hinder a climbers development
I just watched that bit again. You were gambling with that long top at such a steep line angle. Not sure any amount of pre tightening would've saved things...because you're still going to get a lot of slack the way you had it set up. Kevins Rig/Wrench works great for such situations because you...
That's what I thought you meant, haha
But you were cutting deep into the wood also, to help tip the log. Thats a lot of sawing. I'd have probably done the opposite, and cut just a shallow face....if you get my meaning :) If the guys pre load the tip tie, the logs should fold easy. But, your...
Oh, and fine work on those tops August. That's a crappy predicament to be in. And, never discard the option of hauling up a pole saw to reach up and pick those tops apart. Would have taken all of 5 mins to reduce that weight by half. Be safe, mate.
Yeah I had a similar deal in Manchester....not enough room for the polydyne in a lot of situations. But out here we have a lot more scope because of the extra height on average. That and the bendy nature of some of the tall, fast growing conifers out here....its a good combo.
But you're not exactly saying bad stuff, or attacking anyone. You're just giving an opinion. That's the general concensus of a discussion I thought, people giving their own opinions. Without that nobody learns anything. 2 pints is a great time to get chatty. Say what you feel Jed.
Jed. Many times I've seen you speak up about things you don't like, much of which I can relate to. But then, a day later you take it all back, overly apologize, and run your self down in some way or another just to cap it off. Why do you do that ? Why not just stick with your first post. Is it a...
Sometimes it's how you word it. If a guy messes up consecutively, I tell him with the next one that I don't want him to lower it.....rather, just slow it down as it falls to the ground. Next thing you know they've got it near perfect.
Polydyne is also a good investment. Even when they mess it...
The only tension we use is the weight of the guy on the end of the rope. He might walk it around a tree if it's too heavy, but that's it....rarely needs any more. No different than a guy holding the end of a lowering line....only, gravity does the work, you don't lower anything.....nor pull the...
Go ahead Jed. But only if you have the time and energy to get into the whole thing. You're short answer/explanation is bizzare on its own, to me. Which is why I'd be interested to hear a more in depth one; how you came to believe, and any such personal experience that may have happeNed to...
