I figured out why my HH occasionally sticks when I try to descend.
PCTREE told me to check where the Oxan is in contact. There is a little bump so I'll rub it down and I'm sure that will sort it.
I Have had this pinching issue with the Oxan from day one. It has nothing to do with my advancement loop (it wasn't always there) and there is no sap.
I'm using the supplied Beeline and Poison Hivee.
I assumed that it was just a quirk of the device. Recently though I've suspected its actually...
Hahaha, you guys! Yes I was definitely a bit confused. It's clear in my head now and I'm going straight back there now to view Donny's video as I couldn't see it on the iPhone.
Thanks for your help chaps.
I'm still struggling slightly in two areas advancing the HH up the rope.
1: While I'm on the Pantin using the sit/stand for short ascents.
Do you grab the Oxan under the HH to push the HH up or do you grab the bottom of the HH and top of Oxan together?
I found the latter doesn't always...
Thanks DMc.
It doesn't reach over the top of the HH when I push it by hand but it is close so I'll have to keep an eye on it whilst climbing.
I made the holes by heating a screw driver and pushing it through. Then I used a chainsaw file to expand the holes to just the right size.
A huge thank you from across the pond to PCTREE for getting my Hitch Hikers to me yesterday. I used it this morning on a big slippy Ash and I was truly amazed.
I expected it to feel like an awkward Hitch Climber set up but actually it feels like a perfect HC set up with all the SRT advantages...
Hi Porkbrick
To save the rest of us messing around and wasting loads of time, would you mind measuring that foot loop and hand loop please. Also tell us how tall you are. This would all be very useful, at least for me anyway.
Thank you.
That's a great video Porkbrick. I love the webbing loop for hand over hand.
I have a Petzl hand ascender that I bought with my RW. It works well but I just find it too cumbersome, remember i'm in England on generally smaller trees than some of you guys.
I love the simple and compact idea with...
Excellent post DMc.
In response to Pete McTree's branch walking woes. I carry my hand ascender all the time and have a DMM Revolver under it. It means I have it if there is a very wobbly branch walk. I put it on the main line above me then put my tail into the revolver.
It slows you down...
