I have added some lime to the beds to counteract the acidic effect that pure composted chip can bring. Will ruin the brassicas apparently.

Veggies aren’t really his thing. They’re not really my favourite, but they can’t all be stars can they? Best roasted with the Sunday joint.

Rich and loamy, pretty good really. On the subject of building and gardening we're freshening up a corner of the garden. Greenhouse getting slabbing around it, new wall to tidy up. Stuff costs money! I'm hurting a bit in the wallet.

Nope, she just threw them in there, always damp and warm. It is well over a year old mind (the chip pile, so well rotted) I don't know specifically what trees the chip came from in case someone asks. Next year we won't bother putting them in the ground at all

My wife had a brainwave and planted some potatoes in wood chip. Has worked well, cropping earlier than those in the earth. We harvest early to keep them small and tasty.

Like a lot of things, if you enjoy it, finding time is easy, my wife really does like it, for my part I create, rotovate, and do the heavy work and she does the rest. (Oh, I eat the stuff as well) I think she likes the order, lines and certainty of it, whereas I'm more flowers and landscapes...

I guess the asparagus is in its 7th year so at its peak, vitality wise. It's a very fertile area, plenty of sun, plenty of rain. Spring arrives like an express train rather than limping in reluctantly as seems to happen in the UK.
