    Murphy's Step Cut

Stig, Thanks for your reply. Searched “block face cut” am not getting to where I can see exactly what you mean. I will read the results for that more as well as “gut it”. Can you point me to exactly where I can find what you mean easily? Is there one book that you think best covers falling...

    Murphy's Step Cut

Stig, possibly only inexperience kept me from doing that. This is 15 and 20 years ago and I’m working mostly from general recollection as opposed to having the exact picture of a particular tree in mind. Lets call these adrenaline induced recollections. These were Blue Gum Euc.s. We would be...

    Murphy's Step Cut

I removed around 460 trees inside of a 3 ac. forested plot. Most of them were recently dead Tan Oaks from Sudden Oak Death. They grew up competing for light with second growth redwoods and some fir so were very tall and leggy. After falling a few that would hit the ground clear, and climbing...

I like the pictures, and the ladder too. You can get a lot of work done quick that way. We had one half of a light weight 20 ft. ext. ladder and we would just throw it out of our way and to the next tree.

    Murphy's Step Cut

Actually Al’s comment reminds me of another time I would have liked to have had access to the Step Cut. I used to do all the climbing and a bunch of the other ‘thinking work’ for a friend of mine that cleared large areas of property for vineyards. Obviously we just dropped trees any time we...

    Murphy's Step Cut

Remember that scene in Apocalypse now where everything is blowing up all around and Robert Duvall is on a knee having a thoughtful moment saying, “Yeah someday this wars gonna end.” I’ve always tried to walk away from trees real calm and cool like that while the earth’s shaking and stuff is...
